Odds on Slovakia to win Euro 2024

What are the odds for Slovakia to make the Euro 2024 knockouts?

The European Championships are just around the corner and Slovakia will be hoping to fight their way out of Group E. But what are the odds for Slovakia to make the knockouts of Euro 2024?

Slovakia used to compete under the title of Czechoslovakia until the split in 1992. From 1993, they competed as Slovakia, and have qualified for four major international tournaments ever since. At the 2010 World Cup, Slovakia made it out of their group with a famous 3-2 win over Italy and were defeated by the Netherlands in the Round of 16 – who went on to finish second in the tournament.

In the European Championships, Slovakia made the Round of 16 at Euro 16, which is their best-ever finish in the competition. That being said, they do have a more illustrious history on the international stage from their Czechoslovakia days, having won the Euros in 1976 and made two World Cup finals in 1934 and 1962. It comes as no surprise that Slovakia’s main rivals on the European stage are Czechia.

What are the chances for Slovakia to win Euro 2024?

Slovakia have been placed into Group E for the European Championships in Germany this summer, alongside Romania, Ukraine, and Belgium. While Belgium are heavy favourites to top the group table, being ranked third in the world, second place could be up for grabs. Ukraine are the next highest-ranked side at 22nd in the world, with Romania in 46th and Slovakia in 48th. Although Ukraine are favourites on paper to come second in Group E, Slovakia will have a chance to cause an upset. Three third-place finishers will also qualify for the knockout stages of Euro 2024, so Slovakia could boost their chances by getting a good win over Romania.

Slovakia come into Euro 2024 in mixed form, with some up-and-down results in the past 12 months. Their last two matches saw Slovakia play out a 1-1 draw with Norway and a 2-0 defeat to Austria, while there have also been two losses against Portugal in the past year. However, Slovakia have recorded wins over Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the lead-up to the European Championships. They have a good record at beating teams around them in the world rankings, which could come in handy against Romania this summer.

It’s hard to pick out any world-class superstars in the current Slovakia team, but they certainly have a wealth of experience to call upon. 37-year-old Hertha BSC defender, Peter Pekarik, has over 120 caps for his country, while Juraj Kucka also has more than 100 in midfield. Up front, 33-year-old Sydney FC striker, Robert Mak, has 80 Slovakian appearances to his name. In terms of talent in the top five European leagues, Slovakia have Napoli’s Stanislav Lobotka as well as four other Serie A players in Norbert Gyomber, Adam Obert, Ondrej Duda, and Tomas Suslov.

Slovakia currently have odds of 1.90 to qualify from Group E, 10.00 to make the quarter-finals, 35.00 to reach the semi-finals and 500.00 to go all the way and win Euro 2024 outright.
